Lemongrass has long been praised for its ability to support and soothe ligaments, muscles and joints. These three reasons will surprise you and convince you, this one oil you want to have in your collection.
Lemongrass essential oil is known for it's cleansing, purifying and joint supporting benefits. That much is clear. The benefits of this oil will assist even the most aggressive couch potato in achieving their fitness goals, seemingly stiffness free when used before and after exercise routine in massage in order to soothe connective tissue and muscles.
The benefits go far beyond the physical however...
“You want to heal your cancer? Forgive your father and mother, then your cancer will heal" so said a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor.
While I have never experienced that situation or those dramatic benefits from forgiving my parents for their unsavory behavior, the idea is compelling. Particularly when you think of the Scriptures and they say "bitterness rots the bones". All essential oils have an emotionally beneficial component, Lemongrass being a major one, and often overlooked as such.
But first, some important species information;
What is the Genus And Species of Lemongrass? Cymbopagon flexuosus
And why is this Information Important? There are over 50 different species of Lemongrass as well as several different chemotypes. A chemotype is a designation that tells you that the species has different chemical constituents. This usually occurs because the plant is grown in a different area under a distinct climate that alters the chemistry. Many of those species are not suitable for internal, hence why many essential oil companies recommend external use only. While I can appreciate the topical use of essential oils, if we are talking healing from the inside out, my preference is to have the option of internal usage, should I choose that route. The take away here for the average consumer is, always make sure that you purchase an essential oil through both the common name and the genus species. One last reminder, the essential oils enter in the bloodstream through the skin so if you are choosy about whether or not you take them internally, remember if you apply topically, you inadvertently do so already. Best practice at this point would be diffusing only.
Where Did the Name Come From? The oil of lemongrass smells like a lemon and therefore the grass was given the name Lemongrass. This Information so terrifically unimportant, but it is a delightful fun fact.
Now then...
“ Traditional Chinese Medicine lemongrass has been using Lemongrass for thousands of years" It's stimulating and purifying to not only the body, but the mind as well. Its pungent and earthy aroma heightens mental and intuitive awareness."
Emotional and Spiritual
Lemongrass releases resentment, regret from the “should of” statements and pessimism by transforming these negative energies into positive energies. It allows the left brain to see options, so once the negative energies are released, optimism, courage and hope prevails. While inhaling or diffusing Lemongrass, many find it helpful to journal to get the negative out on a paper, then shred the negativity, and finally writing in the positive to seal in truth and create permanent change in the mind.
Lemongrass also protects our auric field from electromagnetic energy (TV, computers, radio). This would be an excellent oil to wear while walking through airport security or even sitting at your computer at home.
If Chakras are of interest, Lemongrass affects the Solar plexus chakra.
Lemongrass is one known for it's environmental cleansing abilities, but being clean on the outside and still resentful, pent up and bitter on the inside only keeps one trapped in a negative mindset. Tap into the emotional benefits of Lemongrass and I imagine you'll begin to see quite a shift in your emotional environment, as well as the physical.
