15 Autumn Wellness Tips


The transition to the hustle and bustle days of fall can be a challenge. Particularly when we are all walking in a season of unknowns, variables that change near daily and our world is in flux. To help ease the switch of seasons we’ve put together 15 Autumn Wellness Tips to get you ready for the cooler months and keep your mental and physical health in check.







Ahh, Autumn...The name inspires one to be in awe.

In it now August and this is the time to begin a health and wellness regime. After all, military personnel does not prepare for war in times of war but in times of peace. So we too, ought to go and do likewise. Prepare our cells, our bodies for optimal health when all the rest of the world is possibly under attack from colds, flus and ...ahem... other viruses.


1) Begin now taking a Vitamin D supplement. We get most of our Vitamin D from the sun, so our intake decreases when the weather is colder since we spend most of our time inside during the fall/winter seasons. If you find you are not getting outside much, a Vitamin D supplement can boost your mood and immune system!


2) Create space to rest. Autumn and winter are the Earth’s way of telling us to slow down. Many are all about the hustle and grind life, but in order to create to most perfect season for your health, hustle needs to be a word of the past and grind? That is truly only beneficial for coffee.


3) Journal. If you've followed me for 5 minutes you know, journaling is a way of life. Journaling helps to see what is true about your day/moment/life, and of course what is not. It's a form of brain dumping, which a powerful exercise to assist you in not dwelling on the negative.



4) Drink water. Drinking plenty of water is one of the most important things you can do in order to stay healthy and strong. Drinking your body weight in ounces is ideal. Yes, your full body weight, not half as most will tell you.


5) Prepare for Daylight Savings Time. Go to bed earlier when you can, especially the week before the clocks change. Longer periods of darkness = longer periods of sleep. Looking to nature and the rhythm of how it flows causes us to pause and see that we too ought to take longer sleeps and wind down earlier in the evening.


6) Wash Your hands in a non toxic soap. Washing hands should be a no brainer, however using a non toxic soap seems to escape many people. Toxic soaps and personal care products can cause a break down of your immune system. So while they may kill all bacteria, it can also kill your immune system.



7) Buy in-season food. Beets, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, kale, pumpkin, broths, roasted squash, roots and sautéed dark leafy greens are all great choices. And no, Pumpkin Spice do not Lattes count, but you do you.


8) Take an antioxidant supplement. We already begin the day behind on antioxidants due to the fact that our bodies produce free radicals as we sleep. Think exhaust on a car. Making sure you are taking a good antioxidant supplement will prepare your body to fight off any unwanted visitors. Ningxia Red is a fabulous add to anyone's regime, anytime of the year.



9) Stay active! It can be easy to just sit around all the time, but it’s important to get in some movement throughout the day. Raking leaves or shoveling snow counts!


10) Wear layers and protect your body from the dropping temperature. Make sure you have gloves, a scarf, ear muffs, a winter coat, warm socks, and snow boots!


11) Do some “spring cleaning” in the fall. Clean out your closet, organize that back room, and rid yourself of things you don’t need. Purging the physical in your environment is an excellent way to rid the mental junk as well.


12) Prepare your home for possible extreme weather conditions. Do you have a shovel and/or snow blower? Do your flashlights have batteries? Is your heat working okay?



13) Create your Winter library. Who doesn’t want to sit by the fire on chilly winter nights and read a good book. It's not just for entertainment, though. Reading grows more brain cells, expands your mind and in those dark days of Winter, takes you to a place only seen in the imagination.


14) Keep a schedule. The cold months can seem to drag on and push us into isolation. Stay on track by scheduling time in your day to do things you like to do. Schedule in happiness triggers, now! In the middle of Winter, pencil in a time to do something fun, out of the ordinary so that you have a treat to look forward to.


15) Be kind to yourself. The holidays can cause weight gain, the shorter days can cause low mood, and mindset surrounding the seasons in general can cause a low frequency. Listen to your body and give it what it needs. Even if that means saying no to another person. Caring for you is of utmost importance, particularly if you have others in your care. Reframing negative thoughts into positive ones can go a long way to better health.
