Liver Love

Remember this organ?

Over the past couple of years I have been studying something calked "Healing in the Hebrew Months". It's fascinating. What I learned was that God designed seasons of time for our bodies to receive healing in very specific areas and we partner with that healing by giving careful attention to certain areas. In case you're wondering what time it is on God's calendar, it's the month of Tevet. I'm sharing this with you because new year I will be walking you all through ways to heal your body in the appointed times to do so. Consider this a little preview.

Our liver is so vital yet completely overlooked. Here are a few clues to let you know it might be time to address this:

  • abdominal bloating

  • pain or discomfort over the liver – (right upper abdominal area under the rib cage)

  • excessive abdominal fat; pot belly; or a roll around the upper abdomen

  • trouble digesting fatty foods

  • had your gallbladder removed

  • acid reflux/heartburn

  • dark spots on the skin commonly referred to liver spots

  • overheating of the body /excessive perspiration

  • acne/rosacea or itchy, blotchy skin

  • unexplained weight gain and

  • inability to lose weight even with calorie restriction

These again are simply cues to take from your body saying "hey it is time you paid attention before we all get ugly."

Some ways to support your liver this month include:

Get your daily fiber- most people do not consume enough fiber with today's standard of living. Recent years have boasted a host of new and interesting ways of weight loss. These have been shown to be quite rough on the liver. Consider supplementing with ICP Daily, even if you are adding a salad or two into the eating mix.

Skip fast food- The trans fats and HFCS found in processed fast food damage the liver. Just drive by the drive-through. Sorry Chik FIl A fans.

Minimize toxic exposure- Eating organic foods, avoiding lawn chemicals, and using a high-quality water filter for your shower and drinking water can all significantly reduce exposure to these compounds. Should you feel the need to detox toxins, search this group for a few ways.

Supplement wisely- As I mentioned above, ICP Daily is a fantastic place to begin your specific targeted supplements for the liver. ICP is going to assist in the elimination process which as some of you may be thinking, that's for the colon. Right. But if you're detoxing the liver yet the colon is backed up, well, that's a problem. In addition to ICP, JuvaTone is a supplement designed specifically for supporting and assisting the liver to function in the way it was designed- including ridding the body of toxins and waste.

Eat liver healing foods- such as organic apples, apricots, artichokes, asparagus, kelp, bananas, beets, berries, carrots, celery, cherries, cilantro (binds to toxic heavy metals!), coconut, cruciferous veggies, cucumbers (very hydrating to the liver), dandelion greens, dates, figs, eggplant, garlic, grapes, hot peppers (eat them red, not green), kiwis, leafy greens, mangoes, REAL maple syrup, melons, mushrooms, onions, oranges, tangerines, papaya, parsley (helps dislodge poisons, and has a healthy effect on gallbladder sludge), peaches and nectarines, pears, pineapple (helps dissolve gallstones), sweet potatoes (feeds the liver and helps the liver regulate hormones), radishes (disinfects the liver), raw honey/ pollen (provides fuel, minerals and other nutrients to the liver), tomatoes (lycopene helps the liver detox red blood cells), turmeric (helps with purging toxins deep within the liver), winter squash, and zucchini.

Exercise- Studies show that losing just 3 to 5 percent of total body weight can significantly improve fatty liver. Consider high-intensity interval training for the most substantial fat-burning benefits.

An oil that is a must in any liver supporting routine is GLF.

Let's do a little exercise. Picture a sink full of dirty dishes – not just from your last meal, but from a week of meals. I know, gross, but hang with me.

Dark stained coffee mugs. Plates with cheese and other unidentifiable layers. Pans coated in grease and burnt-on mess. Maybe even beer mugs and wine glasses coated in a haze.

(Run and get a bottle of Thieves cleaner and Purification and let's clean this mess up. Oops, that's a different post. Sorry, I'll focus!)

Got a good visual by now? OK, picture this mess as your liver. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? "No wonder I feel sluggish! No wonder I feel grumpy."

(Grumpy is a pleasant word for "I snap at everything and I don't even know why.")

As we have been discussing detoxing and cleaning out our livers this month, I want you to grasp the full magnitude of why we would even consider such a thing. Quite simply, I want you to visualize a few drops of this every day as a cleanse for the liver...and of course the gallbladder. Picture water, spearmint, grapefruit, and celery refreshing your body. And because anger is stored in the liver, visualize your emotions being refreshed as well. Think of the beauty this will be through the rest of the year and on into the New Year. Stunning, right?

I have a love/not so lovely relationship with juicers, so that's out for me. Juices from a fresh market run me about $9 a piece, oof. That adds up every month. Nor do I even want to chop and prep vegetables and then clean a juicer. Single mom life has me taking a few more short cuts than I would have previously.

In any case, a bottle of GLF will do quite nicely as I continue on in my month of healing my liver and cleaning it up. Perhaps this regime would benefit you as well? Add a few drops every day to your busy life (either in a capsule or in a beverage), and support the liver in releasing anger and energy blockages.

Easy. Simple.

GLF- gallbladder liver function
grapefruit
helichrysum
celery seed oil
ledum
hyssop
spearmint

And just in case you need a mocktail suggestion, it tastes incredible in a glass of sparkling water after dinner with a slice of lime and a pinched spearmint leaf. If you feelin' all kindsa fancy.

Happy cleansing!
